A National Historic Landmark, the Eudora Welty House and Garden is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as it still boasts its original interior, exterior, furniture, decor, books, photographs, and other priceless artifacts. When Miss Welty decided to graciously give her home to the state of Mississippi in the year of 1986, she made it clear that she wanted her home to honor her family and their love of reading good literature especially that of 20th-century masterpieces by fellow Mississippi authors, rather than make it an attraction that was all about her.
